What is a good way to update the exterior of my home. It is from seventies and you can tell. It is brick and veneer. Can I paint the brick? What other ways could I make it look modern?
Answers:
1I have to tell you MY experience: Someone long ago (way before I ever bought my house) painted my beautiful, wide, brick chimney white....all over the whole thing. This must have seemed like a good idea to someone a long time ago. Fast forward to when I bought the house, and half of the white paint has worn away, and ten years of trying to get the rest of it off in dozens of different ways, giving little to no results. So, I had a brainstorm, and I got a good sponge, some rosey brick colored paint, and I painted each brick individually by swiping the sponge across the brick, not by dabbing it. I did NOT paint where the cement is between the bricks. The result? All of my neighbors thought I got the white paint off, and wanted to know how I finally did it. It came out great!! If you didn't know that it was ever painted white to begin with, you'd never know that it wasn't just plain old beautiful brick! The point to my story? You can do the same thing, the same way, with the color of your choice, be it beige, tan, grey, whatever, and it will look way better than just painting the entire brick area. TRUST ME!!!! I KNOW!!!!
