Painting exterior of my house? | |
I'm thinking about painting the exterior of my two-story, 1800 sq.ft. house. If I rent scaffolding, power washer, and paint sprayer, is this job doable by myself? How long would it take me to do a reasonable quality job? And since temperature hovers in the 90's to 100's where I live, should I limit the paint work to morning hours? Thanks for your advice in advance!
Thanks for all the replies!
I am painting over wood, but the house is in a very hot, dry climate. Should it be dry enough in a couple of days after power washing for painting?
Answers:
1It's doable by yourself, but it will take a long time. I did a single story and it took me a few weeks - including wash, dry, scrape, prime, paint and trim. I did most of my work on the weekends.
I worked all times of the day during daylight hours and just did the side that the sun wasn't on and tried to keep ahead or behind the sun.
Your paint will dry faster in that heat, unless you have high humidity too, so you may get more lap marks.
Make sure you do your prep work and buy a good quality paint (i.e. Diamond Vogel or Pittsburgh) with UV protection.
